redneck ['rɛdˌnɛk]
noun (disparaging)
1 (in the southwestern U.S.) a poor uneducated White farm worker

2 a person or institution that is extremely reactionary
adjective

3 reactionary and bigoted

example: redneck laws

Laymans terms: Big truck tires, huntin’, fishin’, tractor pulls, country music, Charlie Daniels, and rebel flags are just a few words that might describe a redneck. They usually drive pickup trucks with loud sounds that can usually be heard before seen, and they also tend to blare country (or rock in some cases ) music from their radios. They usually add a CB radio to their truck and may have a gun rack in the back and an ol' rebel flag flyin from the antennae or posted on their front or back winshield.

The most active word was intolerant btw.

Im a redneck, i just dont give a rip what someone else does with their own, time, money, property. I have no delusions that everyone should be "just like me".

Kids really aren't that different these days. Remember when the majority of kids thought a cherry bomb and air shocks with a stripe down the side of their car made them look and sound cool? The guys who really built their cars then laughed at the wannabees....

Renegadesrun,

I have been a red neck my entire life. As well my family has for at least a few generations before me.

Not a single one of us can be recognized by your definition.

Rather than go off on you, I'll simply ask you to PLEASE go read a historical book or two. Or even better - please go to where REAL rednecks live, and sit down on the porch and have a listen with them.

How is that for "reactionary and bigoted"?

Dumb just plain dumb to ruin such a good ride. But anyone remember the wide tires and air shocks with the rear javked to the sky in the 70's. Pepole thought we were wird and stupid for doing that to. It did screw up the handling and all you had was a straight line racer (14 Mile)

Fuzzy, wasn't there a whole 'nother redneck thread/explanation some time ago?
I know I've posted a few insights, like redneck girls etc. And the above definition fits my husband exactly, he is a Northern Redneck. There are no "yankees" per se in either of our families regardless of where we're from.
At one time redneck was a derogatory term. Now (to me) it's a compliment, it means I can drive bigger, shoot better, and party louder than "normal" people and get away with it. "Oh, they're rednecks, that's why..." Those that feel that way just leave us alone for the most part. Fine with me.

So as not to hijack the thread completely, the supersized rims and skeeeny tires do nothing for me. Pointless.

Agreed, and have you seen what happens in a high speed corner on some? Some of the car audio fellas have issues with the beads breaking when they are out "acting stupid". I have only seen one or two large SUV's that had some that even closely resembled anything i might like.

I could have an independant summer and winter set for the price of one complete set of 24's with tread.

Ill take 2 !

I clearly remember the subject being broached Other Bower. But I think we started having so much fun poking at each other and telling red neck jokes we lost track of it before it got to any real substance on the actual definition.

I think I'll put together a web page explaining the redneck definition from the generational red neck prospective. That is not to invalidate anyone else's definition - it is if anything to clearly show that there ARE regional variations even in the folks who (even for many generations) have *prided themselves* on being red necks.

Heck - you ain't ABOUT to get me in the graspin range of Bigger Bower and tell him he is not a real red neck. But I can tell you, well, never mind I already have - the definition is different when you have had the . . way of life, for a few generations back.

. . now if he's a YANKEE flying 'ol Dixie, that's another matter entirely - you tell that boy he better start takin steroids and pumpin iron 'cause DaFuzz is comin for him.

OH MAN!! I am sooo kidding, Bigger Bower!! please don't hurt me
<== Wimpy little green guy !!

I guess if I stop to think about it I can see why some get into ricers, low riders and even big wheels - just to press the limit. My respect goes to good workmanship no matter what type of vehicle. Anyone can stick 30" rims on grandpa's Caprice or prop thier old Ford truck on four foot lift blocks and 7' tires or double stick tape wings and new rocker panels on moms Nissan. I'm really impressed though when ricers run 10 sec. 1/4 miles, 4x4's drive year round without constantly replacing ball joints or rear ends and moms Nissan gets painted before the kid runs out of money and interest.

the thing about those big rims, and the little sidewalls that scares me is that theres less tire to absorb vibration. not only is that going to make the ride harsher, but also be harder on the mechanical components.I can see where they could make sense on race cars, but few of us drive on racetracks.just seems like they'd cause more problems than they were worth.

There are a few of those Caprices riding around here that have those ugly huge rims. I saw one that the bottom of the car was actually higher than most trucks in the area. It had like either 24 or 26" rims. The rims were basically sitting on the ground. And these were the bright flashy chrome ones. The car was also neon green.

It was an ugly sight.
