Did we have a solid confirmation that the SRT-10 can't really haul/tow much....from a reputable source? And if so, why is that, what's up with the suspension that it can't take some weight?
Installing a tow hitch voids the warranty and the ball mount on the bumper of the SRT-10 has been filled so you cannot put a ball on it. My friend owns Glendale (California) Dodge and I asked him about it.
Did you happen to ask him what was it about the truck that made it unsafe or unable to pull something? I saw car and driver's evaluation of it but they're awful. They tell you what the 0-60 and 1/4 mi times are as well as the basic stats, they're opinion, but never said anything about the towing or capacities of the vehicle. I'm surprised that show is even on the air, they always find something negative about the vehicle no matter how small that negative is and it makes me mad sometimes. How can u knock a supercharged mustang for having bad gas mileage? Anyway......
It's all good...i was just joking but anyways...i agree with mustanggt....that show does get on my nerves too....I say, if you have the money to buy a hot roded car/truck..you should be able to afford the gas it takes! ......I know this from experience....i get like 10mpg
Just to make note on a few things. The SRT-10's 6-speed was a big mistake. The throw on the shifter is like a big rig, something like 12-18 inches, a no-no for sure when it comes to acceleration. The electronic 6-speed is the only way to go on a truck, like the console shift on the 05 Lightning concept.
Regarding the payload/towing, I've also noticed this. In one of the mags I read, they did a comparo with the SRT-10, and it was the only one not tested with a payload.
I'd be curious to see how I'd fair against one. I've only seen one so far up here, so I'm better off trying for a Lightning, which I know I'm quite close to.
I my be stepping out of my group...But I cant stand it anymore!!
I belong in the 67 to 72 forum....We are putting street legal motors together that are running 500+ HP and over that kind of torque..There is No flame going on here...Were working with some 40 year old stuff here..
And making todays HP and even more.. No matter what the product is...
For what the new trucks cost..We could spend 20% of that and have a classic to boot...
I will admit when my 390/417 stroker is finally built..about 450HP and over 500 lbs of torque.... and thats being conservative!! All it will take is Small 150HP squeeze And its ***** up!! Please no Flaming..JMO....Russ..
Hey Russ, I'm with you man...Ive got some old 69 and 72 Fords lying around in a barn (no kidding) and one day im going to do a frame-off...an hopefully get the same hp as you if not more.....my point, as well as yours, is that you can do it for much cheaper, and have an old school look.....i love the look of the older trucks, especially with 500+ hp
thats true....but it really all depends on what you like, different strokes for different folks Im still baffled to know why the SRT cant haul? I mean come on guys...500hp and it cant or wont tow? Thats a little odd dont you think? Although whoever buys it will prob have a Viper, or someone would want to get one to go up against a Viper. All in all, i think the SRT-10 is a very cool truck, wether it tows or not.
where are all the hard core ford guys that bleed nothing but blue?? am i the only one on here. if it aint a ford or ford product i dont like it!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, im not gonna be all obsessed, like those Chevy guys are....If it gets my from point A to point B....ahhh hell who am i kidding....Its gotta be a FORD....i was just going off on the SRT...that is what this post is about
thats what i am talking about. yeah the chevys and the dodges might put out more power but i am not even going to consider buying one. when i go to buy a car or truck the first place i go is to a ford dealer. nothing else is even considered. if you smashed my head open nothing but little blue ford ovals would jump out, lol. BTW i just found a 2002 or 2003 lightning with 12,000 miles on it for about $24,000. thats a pretty good price on it. you could polly even get a couple more thousand off of it. ford has been getting more into the affordable power and you will be seeing it more in the feature.
