I have a '95 Bronco with a 302 and AOD. Frequently, but intermittently, it loses power about 1 minute following starting the engine. The power loss lasts a minute or so, and then the power comes back. It doesn't miss, buck, ping, emit black smoke, or display any other symptoms. It just ignores the throttle. It does not flash a check engine light. It does sound slightly different out the exhaust when displaying this behavior. It emits a slightly tinny sound (I'm not sure how else to describe it - perhaps like stepping into the throttle on a carbureted car with the choke on?). It has 86k miles on it. It has been serviced by the book. The main engine computer has been replaced. I have checked for vacuum leaks everywhere I could think of, and found none. I have not replaced the oxygen sensor. It has been doing this for a couple years. No mechanic has been able to figure it out. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might investigate?
I may be off here, buy sometimes when there is a lot of moisture/humidity an old distributor cap will build up moisture, when you start the vehicle it will run fine, you begin to drive up the road it will act as if its bogging down and then clear up. You probably changed the distributor cap, so this probably isn't your problem, but the symtoms are similar. Just a thought, later
Maybe pull the codes, there could be something that is showing up, just not setting the check engine light off. Good luck, autozone can do this for free if you don't have a haynes manual to instruct you how to. When you get the codes put them on here and someone will translate them or send you to a link that gives you the problem. later
I had an 88 Lincoln that the cats broke apart on. It would loose power every once in a while like you are describing. I think parts of the convertor would roll around and block off the ezhaust. I finnally gutted them and solved the problem. Might be worth investigating.
I think I'd do as JWTaylor suggested though and get the codes pulled. He has a good trck record of diagnosing problems. I think he has a 7th sence when it comes to trucks. lol
