99 - A4wd?

It is snowy and icy here in Knoxville, TN tonight and I was out driving. As I was going up a steep hill very slowly, I heard a clicking noise and felt the truck may have been slipping a little. The hill may have been icy and I was wondering if the clicking I heard was the 4WD kicking in. It felt like my back tires may have been slipping just a little, but they never completely broke free. Anyway, I was wondering if the clicking was from 4WD, but I would have thought something in the instrument panel would have illuminated (maybe 4H). Or, maybe 4H only illuminates if the switch is manually turned to 4H. I looked in the owner's guide, but didn't see a definitive answer. Should something illuminate if the switch is set to A4WD and the truck automatically egages 4WD?

No, the A4WD will engage without illuminating the light on the dash. The light only comes on when you move the switch.

And just as quickly as it engages, it will disengage when no more slip is sensed.

It may even engage, disengage, and engege again in rapid succession under certain circumstances.
