Hey Folks, Thanks in advance for any help ya can give me with my couple O questions.
First ive been wiring my 73 F250 with one of those not so painless kits, for a few months.. hehe got busy with work what can I say. the truck originally had Points ignition, was converted with one of those Ignitor kits by the P.O. Anybody know if it needs a full 12 volts or do I need the ballast resistor? Where to get one If I do? All the wiring was toast in the truck, and was simply cut out and trashed OOppps!
Next question, the Blower Resistor. I understand how it works and how to hook it up but where to get a new one?
Scott, is this a Pertronix Ignitor? If so, you do need a ballast resistor for it. I don't know if the "Painfull" wiring kit has a resistor wire in the harness or not. If you're not sure, check it with an ohmmeter; the coil wire will show about 1.3 ohms if it does.
Any auto parts store will have those ballast resistors. Get one in the 1.2-1.4 ohms range. The usual place to mount them is on the firewall.
I'm not sure about the blower resistor....if you know the value you could pick one up at Radio Shack and solder it in.
On the blower motor resistor, you would be surprised how much Ford vehicles have in common. I would go to the junkyard and find one out of a car or truck and see if it would fit, or make it work. You do know that it mounts in the air duct to keep it cool?
The "painfull" wiring kits doesnt include the ballast resistor. Or ground wires, the only ground wire included is for the headlights. It's pretty vauge on alot of aspects of wiring I think. But hey my area of knowledge is in painting not wiring. Ill head up to the parts store this afternoon and confuse some Hs parts kid for awhile. =) Maybe have him find me a heater core for a volkswagon beetle too.
I didnt know they were mounted in the air duct, but I knew they had to get hot.
