what shocks are people using? bilstein, edelbrock, rancho?
i have a 2002 sd v-10 4x4 crew cab and i tow a 18 foot toybox trailor. what shocks are the hot ticket?

This has been covered however, it seems that bilsteins are the favored shocks though there are some guys w/ ranchos and edelbrock to each his own. I am leaning towards the bilsteins at this time, but will wait if possible till I get back and get my lift installed. Someone will be along soon enough to give u the pros and cons of the different setups out there.

I put a set of your basic Bilsteins and didn't really notice any improvement. I also put on B-stone Revos which were bigger (285s) at the same time. That could be part of the reason for me not noticing a better ride. The Bilstiens were cheaper than the motorcraft shocks from the dealer, plust they are yellow and blue and look cool
I put in a pair of ProComp9000s up front, and did not notice a diferenc e from the previous ones(think they were original). But I also installed timbrens too, which rest on the leafs, so in essence I have no shock absorbers.
With my upcoming leveling kit, I intend to go with ProComp 3000's. But I want to keep my ride as close to stock as possible and I won't be pulling or towing anything.
Maybe with your on-again, off-again towing/pulling you should consider an adjustable shock or air shocks? Most brands have adjustables. For exaple, I recall Rancho having adjustable shocks that you can even get a gauge panel for that allows you to adjust (inflate/deflate pressure) on the shocks from inside the cab. So, as you're driving and realize you need more stiffness, you can adjust it (or vice-versa). This was back a handful of years, so it's likely that other manufacturers of shock absorbers have same/similar now, too so Rancho may not be the only game in town.
