I would like to know why my truck has a loud thud when I start it up. Ford Motor Company told me that it was normal it was just the AC if it was left on when I turned my truck off. The noise comes from the left front floor board of the truck. My truck is a 2001 Crew Cab Diesel 4x4 F350. Hence the user name. Thanks the new guy.

It is just a damper slamming shut or possibly opening not to sure which, but it is a damper in your a/c duct. Mine does the same thing. I have a 2001 CC 4x4 and it has done it since new. Would not worry to much about it. Later.

thank guys , i was worrying about mine aswell, it was driving me nuts, now i have a new noise, when its cold (20- 40) in the mornings my motor sounds like its hissing like a snake(funny i know, only thing i could compare to)and stops once it has warmed up 2 miles down the road, anybody have the same problem or is it normal.

The hissing is the exhaust back pressure valve at the outlet to the turbo. It closes to help pre-heat the engine. I remember when I first got my truck and I heard that noise as it was warming in the driveway. It should go off when you touch the brake. It is normal.
