readin all the dash threads.......... what does it entail to place new or replacement lights in the dash.what do you have to remove ..rip out ..etc... to do this....thanks guys!!
On my '68, I had to take out the phillips head screws around outside of the instrument cluster bezel and disconnect the speedo cable. My cable was only hand tight. I had to shove my hand up in the back of the dash from underneath and find the connector. If it is tight, you can use a wrench. Sorry don't know what size wrench off hand.
I just looked at my cluster and it looks like there are 4 or so small hex head bolts, (5/16 or 1/4 inch, on the back of the cluster), that hold the bezel and cluster together. There seems to be four bulbs but they must come out once the bezel is off the cluster from the inside. They do not come off the back with the half twist like newer model light sockets. I can't say if your model year is exact, but I can't imagine that it is much different. It doesn't look too terribly difficult. Good luck!
On my 69 there are 4 push in lights on the back of the cluster. It is easy like 68 stepside said to puill the entire cluster. Remove the speedo cable and pull the big multi connector and the whole thing comes right off. Once you have it in your lap it should be easy to do what ever to the lights.
pulled off , i have actually five lights one appears to be right in middle of speedometer , a red lense at the 50 mph marker, (never seen because i guess light was never on or whatever ) not sure why the red little octoganal lense is there in the dash anyway. The bulbs say ge 194 so guess this is the go......, nice to take off , these babies get a little dirty over the years........, what about that compter looking paper (board) overlay that conducts the power........ should i try to replace now while i have off or let go......looks kinda nasty...guess taking the main power pin input with a lil muscle didnt help it either...
