1984 F150, How do the light switch and wiper ***** come off, want to work on dash panel. Do I need special tool?
I want to install OEM tach in panel, can it be do easily, what about wiring it, were is the connection on engine, coil? Or is it better to replace with dash that already has tach in it.
Well, I can't tell you too much about the tach, but all you need is a curved tool of some kind, like a dental scribe to get the ***** off. inside the **** is a clip that is spring loaded. Use the tool to push back the spring and the **** should come off on both the lights and the wipers. Also, if you can reach the bottom of the light switch there is a button (on most) that you can push with the switch pulled all the way and the whole light rod will come out. Good luck, Bryan
If the truck has OE gauges, it has a tach wire at the cluster connector. If not, you'll have to bring a new one thru the firewall. You can't swap a non-gauge cluster for a gauge cluster until the '87 trucks.
Mine has all the gauges, no trip meter and no tach.
Where on the motor is the connection. I rebuilt engine and got rid of all computer stuff. Replaced it with a Duraspark 2 system.
i took a short length of wire hanger and curved one end into a little "J" which is good for popping off the windshield wiper ****. i then use a long flathead screwdriver & flashlight from underneath to push the button on the bottom of the light switch shaft which releases it so it can be pulled all the way out. don't forget to turn off your lights though as they are usually on at this point . i use the straight end of my wire hanger snippet to do that.
If you are installing just the factory tach into a truck with the guage package, and don't have the proper printed circut for a tach equipped truck, wire it as follows: Terminal C to instrument cluster connector pin 11, terminal B to pin 13, terminal 8 to pin 2, and terminal 8 to a ground if you have a V8, if a 6, leave it unhooked.
If you have the printed circut for it, or, the whole tach cluster, it's a plug in.
