I took my F-250 SD Power stroke 4 x 4 crewcab into the local ford dealer to have the glowplugs checked out and they told me the computer showed a code that the transmission had slipped in second and third gear. The mechanic told me that he checked the fluid and said it was burnt and I needed a new transimission @ $3000. I have 63,000 miles and I have not towed crap with this truck! He also told me it would not do any good to change the oil in the transmission either.(he said it was too late) I have never felt it slip or notice any problems at all. My question is, does him or his computer know what he is talking about and has anyone else experienced this?

That is my plan, with christmas here that is one present I don't need at this time. I need to pull a heavy load this weekend so I will find out if he is correct or not. I am thinking about changing the oil and filter anyway.

My 2000 shifts as if it is a 6 speed. I have changed the fluid on time and everything. New tranny is not the answer. Ford put too small of line pressure regulators in the 4r100's, diabo makes a regulator of the propor size, for about 40 dollars. I would do that and get some tranny cleaner.
Wow! how did you do that? Did you get a Gear Vendor overdrive/underdrive unit? Those are pretty expensive but great I heard. I could turn my 6-speed into an 11 speed with one of those, but for $4000 ($3300 for the unit, $750 for the install.), that is a bit expensive.
