I've been tooling around with the interior of my Supercab and have decided to do away with the bench seat. Has the 60/40 split backrest and solid bottom. I want to put in bucket or captain's chairs. They will need to slide forward and the backrest fold down to allow access to the back of the cab. Where I carry my "expensive" tools, lol. Any experiences or advice would be appreciated. And don't bother with "What?? Why do that? Nooo,, keep the bench!!" Done deal in my head,,
One other thing,,, All power is nice too and wouldn't be difficult wiring in,, so All options are open.
Also,, years and models would be appreciated so I know what to look for in the boneyard. Gonna get used seats in good condition and rewire/cover them.

The 40/20/40 seat in 94-96 full size trucks would work pretty good. I have that in my '95 and like it a lot. The driver and passenger seat backs individually tip forward and the seat slides forward for rear access. The center back can either be up for a center passenger, or down for an armrest/small console. I've seen more than one 73-79 with it.
If you don't like that, mid-90's captain's chairs are comfortable, look about the best IMO, and have a nice center console. If I ever find a nice gray pair, I may switch to them.
Oh, and with both of these seats you get power lumbar.
Bcf, is that still a bench lower seat? I'm going to be building my own center console for between the seats, I will Never have a third person in the front. Power lumbar is gooooooood,,,,
No, the two seats are seperate, with a plastic console on the floor. The nice thing is the console is huge, could stuff a child in there. Wow, this trucks gonna be perfect when I'm a dad.
This one's easy: the Sport bucket seats from a '92-'95 Ranger STX or '91-'96 Explorer (XLT is cloth, Eddie Bauer is leather). They have power lumbar and side bolsters, plus the front edge of the cushion extends in and out. I've got 'em in my Ranger and they are the BEST!! If you get 'em from an Explorer, they'll also have 6-way power adjustment.
Alright,, great info,,, keep the ideas rolling in. How about ones with those fold-up armrests? Is that a strictly captain's chair thing? What about you guys that drive for extended periods of time,,, I'm looking for seats that won't hurt my butt after 8+ hours of driving.
I put a pair of seats in mine out of a dodge mini van. They have the fold away arm rests. And the drivers seat is even power. The passenger seat could always be mounted on a bronco frame so it will flip up. These seats are really comfortable. And there not big and bulky like some of the captains chairs in full size vans. I used a center console out of a 99 superduty everything looks good together. Almost looks like it would of been there from factory. I have pics in my gallery check them out.

What, Why are you not keeping it stock? (JUST KIDDING) I have the same thoughts on seat swaps for my '79. You might concider a seat from later Dodge trucks. I have three '99 to '2001 for work trucks for the meat heads that I like better than my '99 superduty. Unless ford has better radios and seats in the 2005's I'm buying a dod&e for my next work truck.
If I could put the comfort and options available now in my '79 I'd still be using it for my work truck/daily driver. As time and money allow, I plan to install
power windows
power door locks
leather seats
cruise control
XM radio
Hey Grape,
What is the back seat in your supercab. My 79 has side jump seats. I want them out and a bench seat in. Wondered if yours had the same option? I'm thinking about the dodge seats out of a 2001 king cab. Sat in a buddies truck and wow what comfort! I've still got to measure to see if they will fit. I've got two little one that ride in the back and want them safe!!!!
whatever seats you use, be sure to get a set of 78/9 bronco bucket seat mounts. the supercab and bronco shared the floor pan which is different than the regular cab. i did it in mine (follow the link to my superford page to see pics) and it was just a matter of drilling a couple of extra holes in the floor and i mounted some later XLT buckets from a bronco. hawkrod
Great ideas, guys, thanks. Kinda disappointed this got moved to the 73-79 Forum since I wanted opinions from the users at large, not just strictly us whackos. I wanted to know about the seats in general,, not specifically the ones for these year's trucks,,, I'll Make it fit But oh well, lol, They will do as They wish.
Anyway,, Mathew, I've got the folding full bench seat in the back. Pretty sweet, folds down and becomes a nice level hard surface for storing my tool boxes. But also can pop up and accomodate passengers when needed (thus the lack of need for the center front seat). I would suggest hunting one of these down, the stock ones are perfect.
Thanks, Hawk,, I was wondering what would be best to use for the starting platform.
Crew and Jim, Dodges huh? *scratching noggin* Hmmm,, gonna have to think about that one long and hard. The only parts on my truck are either for Fords or fabricated by yours truly. I'll look through the boneyards though, and see if any catch my eye, like those folding armrests and the chairs not being the typical HUGE ones for a captain's chair is a plus.
