parking lights and fog lamps
does anyone know how to run the parking lamps and just the fog lamps on a 2003 psd. the manual says it is possible but i have yet to find out how. the only time i can get the headlight switch to pull out and turn on the fog lamps is when all of the headlights are on. if anyone knows how or might know of an override please let me know. i have seen several truck in the area just running the park lamps and the fog lamps at dusk and it is very appealing and looks good but i am not sure if there lamps are factory or if they bought them from a dealer later but they are in the same place as mine and look identical. if they did not come factory they may have put them on a separate switch. if anyone knows please reply

These are the same links that are in the FAQ. There are alot of good things to look at in there for the common problems/idea/fixes

I don't have the automatic lights on my 2003. If the high beams are on the fog lamps won't light. If you have the automatic (switch all the way to the left) and it is too light out nothing will turn on. If you turn the switch to the parking lamps and pull out on the switch you should see the foglamp indicator on the switch light up and the foglamps and parking lights will be on. Remember if you have the high beam switch on even with the headlights off the foglamps wont light. I found out by trial and error.

I don't know a thing about it so I probably shouldn't try to reply but it sounds like there is a mechanical interlock if you cannot physically move the switch without the headlight switch being on. I don't know if everyone was overlooking that or not. If that is the case you would have to defeat the mechanical interlock. Doesn't sound like it would have anything to do with the computer. That's what I'm getting out of your description anyway. Just another thought to ponder.

You can only do this if you have the headlight switch from a lariat truck which has the automatic lights. On the switch 12:00 is off, 11:00 is atuo,
1:00 is parking lights and you are able to pull the switch out and the fog lights will be on and 2:00 is headlights on. I dont know it is available on an xlt which I noticed is what you have.

It seems this is a common problem. Here's some 411 that I know so far:
1999 - 2001 Superduys (with the "older" style lights) CAN'T be done (parking and fog's on at once). It seems that this is a 2002 - up feature. I also noticed that some people with XLT's CAN do this feature, and some with the XLT can't. Maybe this is a Ford issue ?? I know that my old 2001 would not do this, but my 2003 can. This is a cool feaure, I usualy just leave my parking and fog's on at night as well. I usually just turn my headlights on while on the highway. You'd be amazed at how bright the fogs are.
