I'm looking into a remote starter for my PSD.
Was wondering if anyone might have suggestions as to brands, functions, etc.
I want it to be able to interface with the factory system if possible.
Would also like it to have cooldown capability - IE idle for several minutes after i turn off the truck and get out to cool down the turbo.
arls544, I have a system made by Avital, model avistart 3200. I had it installed in 2001 and everything still works great! It has about a 300' range and powerful enough to work thru a few walls, it has a 20 minute timer so if you forget your truck is running it shuts itself down. If it is real cold out side and you are not near an outlet, you can program it to start every three hours, say if you are at work! Also it has what you would call the "pit stop" mode where you can actually pull your key while it is running and lock your doors, I use this function as my cool down mode. It is a good system and I didn't know that there was even a remote starter out there for diesels (It waits for the glow plug light to go out), and if by chance it doesn't start the first time it will cycle thru 2 more times if it has to. I paid $200 at the time(I got a damn good deal) and I am sure they run around $250-$350. Also for what its worth I installed a Bulldog Security remote starter for my wifes car for $50 and my time,I would'nt recommend for your truck but for the wifes gasser it works great and starts every time. The web site for Avital if they still make it is www.directed.com Good luck! and Merry Christmas!

I have an Valet. I had a Avistart on my other truck. That was a good one too. The Valet seems to have more functions and was cheaper. It might be a case of local priceing, etc.
On your 00 you should be able to tag into the wait to start light. On mine 02 they had to use a pluse timer which just delays for a preset time. Ford changed how the signal gets to the light in 02 I believe. They can't tag into the wait to start wire. The signal comes from the PCM though a circuit board to illumination panel.
