overheatin' after new pump

i just replaced the waterpump, lower and higher piping, and all belts while i was at it. now the truck is overheating after 20min of idleing. i believe that i put a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water. but could it be b/c there is air in the system? if this is the case, how do i fix it. also could the thermistat could be closed? i dont know...i'm going to see if the 'stat is closed tomorrow. thanks in advance

I would guess that it is probably your thermostat stuck closed. Whenever I changed a major part in the cooling system and have most of the coolant drained I change the thermostat. Just easier to do it and you don't get stuck when it's cold. When putting the new thermostat in be careful, it's very easy to crack the housing (trust me, I cracked 3!). If you do its ok though, Ford keeps them in stock! When you buy a new thermostat, get a failsafe one. That way, when it fails it does so in the open position.

i would say air in the system just make sure ya keep the antifreeze topped off cause eventually the air will work itself out
to the radiator maybe take the cap off while there is still some pressure on the radiator but not hot

You can fry an engine in about 10 minutes so be very careful now. What did your temp guage read before and after the overhaul? Why did you change all of those things anyway?
Big caution also..I hope you used the stock water pump bolts and the new pump assy is the same size as the old one. The bolts for the water pump can damage cylinder number one by pushing into the cylinder wall if the pump mounting bolts are too long.

Maybe you got the wrong pump. Reverse rotation? I have heard Ford changed them in the mid 80's not positive thought.

check the rotation because engines with the old V belts go one way and newer single belt are reverse rotation. the new bels drive the pump with the outside of the belt.
