fuel pressure

whats up everyone,need a little help.wondering how would you check the fuel pressure on a 1992 f-150 5.0. i can borrow a friends pressure guage ,would it be the valve stem connected to the fuel line where the inj. are. heres a dumb ? ,does the truck have to be running or just have the key on. thanks!!!!!

There are several different tests, both engine running and engine off. Engine at idle with the vacuum connected to the fuel pressure regulator should be around 30-45 psi. At idle with the vacuum disconnected should be around 40-50 psi. Pressure with engine/key off, after 5 minutes should be around 30-40 psi. I have here, fuel pump hold pressure should be around 50 psi. I think that's key on engine off, but I'm not sure.

Yes you check it at that "valve stem". The correct term is Schrader Valve. From my experiences it seems that 29 psi seems to be the fine line. Anything below that and it will barely run. 36 psi at idle seems to be the norm, and when you open the throttle it should come up a little.
