I have an 86 F150 that is idling rough. It used to cut out on me until I replaced the fuel pressure regulator. I have read in other posts that the problem for my rough idle could be leaking injectors. When I replaced the regulator I found a bad injector. My question is that if I check my fuel pressure, with the new regulator, would the only way I would lose pressure be that my injectors are leaking?
Yes I have. I am getting a reading around 35. I was having a problem with rough idling and cutting out on me. I replaced the EGR valve, and pressure regulator among other things and thought I had it fixed but after two days of running good it went back to a rough idle. I am going to check my MAP sensor next. Any other ideas?
Thanks
I checked my fuel pressure when the motor was hot which is when I have the problem. I have 30 psi at the rail. When I rev the motor the pressure starts to drop slightly and when I let off it drops to 28 and then goes back to 30 psi. When I shut the motor off the pressure increases to 39. My thoughts are that is the reason that when I restart the motor, even after shutting it off when it was running rough, it starts up and runs fine for a while. Does that sound crazy or am I correct in my thinking? Is my next step to replace the fuel pumps? I can hear the exterior pump run when I turn the key. Should I replace that one too on the assumption it is starting to wear out?
Thank you ProjectSHO89 for the suggestion. Without checking the pressure again I would still be searching.
