The PPK/PP is a nice gun but the 380 or worse 32 are right on the edge of accepatble for a self defense gun. A 9, 10 or 45 may be better.
There are very compact 9s and even 45s out there that are about the same size as a PP and even PPK. I have heard the Star and another Spanish make are very nice very compact 9s and 45s for a reasonable price. The Russian Makarov and knockoffs is an interesting gun that has a bit more power than a 380 but is about the same size as a PP. I even think it comes in 9.
The gotcha is that all these compacts are relatively inaccurate and even the 380 has a nasty kick. I am a fairly big guy, 6'4 and way too uh muscular, yeah that's it, muscular, and have fired thousands of rounds, and even I don't like to fire my 380 PP. I prefer the feel of my Browning Hi Power 9 or my Randall 45ACP. But then for concealed carry, accuracy and comfort in firing are not the big deciding factors. When you need to use a concealed carry, you probably are pretty close and desperate anyway.
The DCM M1 are kind of a crap shoot. I have seen and played with 3 or 4 of these, own two. Some are almost pristine like new and others are real beaters, but still better than many on the open market. The US arsenal guns are at least in pretty good condition as far as corrosion and pitting. Some do have worn barrels. My personal DCM, which I earned thru a match in the 80s was almost like new and an excellent shooter. Another DCM I bought from a friend looks decent but the barrel is a bit worn and it shoots so so.
You are right though. The AR15 with the right bullets can be a tack driver. My two AR15s shoot dime size 3 shot groups at 100 yards with open sights off a bench. They are becoming very popular for military style matches. Their only weakness seems to be long range windy conditions. Still I do love my personal M1.

and i also collect old shotgun shells clear back in the paper and old metal shells.
i take the .243 out target shooting a lot, old toilets are fun to shoot at, at 200 yards i can hit a pop can, ive collected guns for years as well as the shells.
also i own a 1954 Russian SKS 7.62x39 its barely even been shot, i just bought it for the condition it was in, and the fact that its one of the greatest guns ever made. BUT id like to know- do you NEED a sks front sight tool to adjust the front site, or is there a way to do it without the tool? also, the front sight post seems like its to the left in the front sight hood, instinct would tell me that the pin should be centered shouldnt it? its never been damaged, so its not like its bent or something
Hmm....ya know, you are the second person I have ever met who believes that, everyone else says that that is what they wehre 15 or 20 years ago but have since become one of the better guns out there. And for sure one of the best for the buck.
p.s. I love mine. I have never fired a 45 with that little amount of kick. or one with that much ability to be conceiled.
jimmy dean, i dont really understand your latest post, what are you reffering to? my post about the SKS ? and the .45 part... my USP expert has very low kick back but it doesnt seem toooo concealable.
I have a Glock 17 and a HK-USP COMP 40S&W and love it. I normally keep it in a fanny pack and it is very concealable in the waste band. There is more kick with the Glock than with the HK.
My friend has a Russian SKS and it is Awesome. No mis-feeds or other sticks in over 1000 rounds. Accurate up to about 250yrds.
I had a snubbie 357 Taurus and could not hit anything with it. Very nice gun and would use it for a last chance, but it is not the first one that I would grab.
