Fellas I have just had my ball joints replaced, and front differential fluid changed a month ago on my 2000 SD 5.4 Auto Trans Auto Hubs 4wd Lariat.I dont use the 4wd much ,once a month or so .Yesterday we had snow so I turned the switch to 4wd High and now it makes noise when I take my foot off the accelerator, It sounds like a stick shift would if I put it in too low of a gear and let off the gas.It also whines a bit when accelerating but not as loud as decelerating. If I remember correctly last time I used the 4wd itwas much more quiet,In snow I could not even hear that it was on.Is this something someone has experienced or should I turn up the radio and drive on?Everything seems to function properly except it is just noisy now.
The guy that changed the ball joints said they were fine when he removed the axle. But when he was removing the axle he beat on the knuckle with a hammer and used a pry bar at the same time.Since I have never done this job before this was of concern to me but he shrugged and said this is how they do it and has done many others with no problems. He is the suspension man at a large Ford dealership. The truck is only quiet when maintaining a constant speed and makes the howling sound when decelerating and accelerating. Are the rest of your guys trucks quiet when decelerating or do they make some noise? Thanks for the help
