'65 4x4 conversion
Thanks in advance
No, not as a bolt up conversion. This is to say really anything is possible for people willing to sacrifice enough, but at some point that can become a foolish exercise.
There are major differences in:
Frame, Steering Box & Column, BAsic Suspension, TWIN I-Beam front Axle w/ Coil Springs vs Live SINGLE Front Axle on Leaf Springs, the list goes on & on.
If you want a Slick 60s 4X4 you have 2 real options. You can Get a 60's 4X4 or get a later 4X4 chassis & work at converting a 65-66 style body to fit that. ALthough id you have a running driving complete 4X2 now, you might want to think about it some before you whack it apart to create a 4X4 out of it's body.

1-- 65 F100 short box 2x4
1-- 1979 front F150 4x4 clip cut 12 inches back of the front cab mounts.
Measure your wheel base to make sure you get the wheels back in the wheel wells where they belong when you are finished.
Clip off the 65 2x4 frame off at the front cab mounts and slide the early frame right into the new frame its a very tight fit.
I slide mine in about 12 inches, you can bolt them together and weld along top and bottom. The front cab mounts are the same the back cab mounts are the same since they are on the old frame, bed mounts are the same.
Use the 77 steering col and steering shaft and bingo you got a great driving great looking 4x4 with power steering and disc brakes. Of coarse there is a little more to this project but its fairly straight forward .
I have some great pics of the project but I need a scanner to get them on the computer I will work on that.
The only reason I cut the frame was the bed mounts, they are alot different than the early bed. I probably could have work around the mounts but the other thing, was I used a late model long bed frame and was building a short bed 65
