I would not go with power master alternators or anything they carry.
I have had to rebuild 6 month old power master alt. and when I open them up, I have seen remans from autozone that were built better. Also there chrome is cheaper than the mid 90s chibbie grilles.
Just my 2 cents. Or my professional opinion as an automotive electrician.
If it will bolt into your sepertine belt brackets, a 93 or so Taurus alternator is nice, The 3.0 engine cars have 100 amp alts, the 3.8 cars have 130 amps. They are easily retrofitted to V-belt setups, I have one on my 82 F150 351W, but I don't know about an 89. If you don't mind doing some rewiring, you might be able to use one of the 3G 130 amp alternators from a 96 (and others) 3.8 engine Mustang. One of these will be in effect a "1-wire" alternator when done. The Taurus alternator uses the old style external regulator.
It may be that neither will bolt up to your engine. In that case neither will a run of the mill Powermaster. I'd avoid the Powermaster in any case, they're just rebuilt Delcos (Chevrolet). Delcos are very popular with the parts stores, they ALWAYS have them in stock. They have to. I believe Powermaster is also selling a converted Mitsubishi alternator, but I haven't looked into them.
Hope this gives you some ideas. Perhaps someone knows for sure exactly which alternators will easily bolt up to your engine.
(My 89 F150 and 87 Bronco are both 4.9's)
The link Adam kindly provided shows how Brian mounted a "Mustang" 3G alternator on an '89 V8 Bronco so you should be good to go if you choose the same route. That would be my first choice.
I thought I remember the factory alt. putting out somewhere around 75 amps (can't remember exactly so don't quote me on that one). I did the mustang 3G conversion from a GT and it worked fine, although it required minor grinding of the factory bracket to fit. I used the same link as previously posted. Make sure you use large enough wire (I used 4 gauge) and good luck.

I would like to get a higher amp alternator too, but I don't know how comforable i feel playing with the wiring for a g3. Maybe if i had all of it infront of me as saw it for myself it would make more sense. I see too that powermaster doesn't seem to be all that great and mean green wants over 300 bucks for one of their alts. Is it acceptable to get an alternator shop to rework a stock alternator to around a g3 specs and still use stock wiring? I have heard this fire hazzard stuff, but I still don't understand what causes it. thanks guys
