OK, making plans for the Tank (1950 F3) and looking for advice. Here's the second question:
2) Realizing there are limitations to the stock steering box, is there a suitable (and/or easy) swap for a newer manual steering box? I'm thinking along the lines of a 60s or 70s truck box. Is there any gain to this, or am I better off just rebuilding the original box. Is power steering the only option to original? I plan on having the whole front end rebuilt regardless. Oh, and the whole idea behind sticking with manual steering is that I'd just as soon keep everything as simple and stock-appearing as possible. Also I don't mind a little arm workout and don't plan on travelling hundreds of miles a week...
I noticed at the local wrecker a couple of weeks ago,a 67 dodge 100. It had manual steering, and the box looked almost identical to a ford box.
As a bonus,it had a flexible coupling right at the box,so you could attatch almost any coloumn to it.
It may be worth checking one out.
