I have a miss or hesitation in my 68 F100 360 I cannot figure out. I have timed it and check all hoses for leaks. It has a pertronix ignition and everything else is stock. Changing the timing did change where this miss or hesitation occurs. It runs great except for the hesitation. I'm not sure when it first occured, but it does have a newer carb reman autolite 2100 and that's when I started to noticed it. I checked the jet in the carb and it is the correct size. I was told to do a compression check because one of my cylinders may have low compression. I have not done that yet. Any other thoughts???
Also, does anybody know why it starts hard when hot. I drive lets say 60 miles and turn it off, then get right back in it and it's very hard to start.
Hard start when hot, typical. Mine did it all summer. I think it is boiling the gas out of the carb. NO fuel, no start until it pumps some more into carb. Real PITA. I have since put a Holley on mine, so we'll see what happens next summer.
As for miss/hesitation. I would ask about the carb. I know it's a reman, but they suck too. Does it miss when you gently apply throttle? No, then it's the accelerator pump NOT keeping up. Mine did the same think. What a pain to drive. Poor designed linkage.
If it does it anyway you drive it? Not really sure then. Might have bad plug somewhere?
Definate boiling of the gas after a long run. A spacer between the carb and manifold will correct that. I would suggest a 1 inch spacer. Plus this actually allows for a better burn of the fuel.
What is the 360 timing? All spark plugs have been checked? Plus wires, dist. cap and rotor? Also, could be the carb. Does it run to lean or to rich? Might want to adjust on the rich side and see if it clears the hesitation.
If I gently apply the gas it does not seem to miss. I will check plugs/wires/dist cap next. All are fairly new. I seemed to notice miss after the new carb change.
