I just went to Capper Ford and it lists for $895, Premium Care for 5yr / 75,000, $1435 for 7 yr /75,000.

I put in F250 4x4, Diesel, $50 deductible, new and it came back $1690. Did you do anything different? Still a good deal. I was going to pay 1290 for a 60/72 drivetrain.
I just wanted to say that extended warranties can sometimes be worth it, but MOST of the time its a waste of money.
There is only one reason you can buy an extended warranty on just about anything you can buy today is because they make a ton of money on them.
Most people in here are saying it only cost them $50 or $75 for a deductable to get their vehicle fixed, but what your forgeting is what you paid for that extended warranty. Now your up to at least $1000-$1500 to actually get it fixed.
I just bought a new Ranger, and of course they had to offer the warranty, and I was seriously considering buying it only because it offered a 100% money back if you didn't use it at all. Sounded ok, but at the price they wanted for it, I wanted to keep my payment as low as possible so I declined.
I know some people like the "peace of mind" that an extended warranty delivers, but in most cases its a huge waste of money. Just my .02 cents.
Had an Esp offered with every Ford I ever bought new or used but that new 6.0 Diesel the Dealer didn't even offer it and I was wondering why. After reading all the post about the problems with that engine its kind of got me wondering if they are reluctant to sell an ESP with that truck.
For me the debate is how to get the warranty for less, which has already been solved thanks to this forum. If I can buy the warranty at "wholesale" price, then I feel like Ford isn't making that much of a stack of money on me, and I get peace of mind.
I do have two questions/issues:
1. I have been told that the 3.0 V6 that I have in my 2003 Ranger is prone to head gasket problems at 40,000 miles. Actually, the person said that it was all Ford V6's. Comments from anyone?
2. Second issue -- the difference between premium care and extra care -- seems like the big difference was for some high-end gadgets that are not on my Ranger anyway, and for LOTS of emissions related stuff that is covered by Premium care and NOT by extra care. Here's the question: isn't that emissions stuff mostly covered by the "emissions" warranty anyway?
I have always purchased "extended warranties" on both new and used land vehicles, and new water vehicles from the manufacturer. I have always at least "broke even" with the cost of the warranty, or have been "ahead of the game" at the end of the warranty period. Since I have the selling dealer do all the oil and filter changes, all my service records are in one location. Life becomes stupid / simple when it comes to filing a claim under the terms of the warranty. With the "high cost of vehicle repair", an extended warranty give you, the owner, "peace of mind"! ------Just my opinion. ------Greg
Based on my experience in 20 years of vehicle ownerships. I've had several different manufacturers vehicles.... I recall most of my warranty work were done on domestic vehicles except for my first F150 (1990 302 v8) and my current 98 F150. For my past three imported vehicles, none warranty related repairs were needed. So, it depends on what vehicle you currently own, that should determine whether extended warranty are needed or not. It's nice to have peace of mind if you're willing to spend extras. Basically if you're buying domestic vehicle, then it might be wise investment to get extended warranties. Sadly, my first two Ford cars were terrible (82 TBird, 92 Taurus) most of repairs were made during first 75K miles. My 83 S10 2.8L were terrible as well. My most troublefree vehicle were 93 Maxima (160K miles).
I always get the Preimum Care. I shop around and wait. Leave your name with an F&I guy at a dealership. Have him call when he needs an extra sale that month. I have bought for $50 over cost when they need the extra sale. Plus it looks good for a dealer to sell plans on cars bought elsewhere. My last F-250, 2000, was serviced twice under the ext. war. and that included rear end work, emmision work and a new spart tire winch. Plus, when I traded the truck last month, the new owner paid me $359 for the remaining 20000 miles on a 100,000 warranty. That was more than I could get by cashing it in.
www.fordserviceplan.com does not appear to be direct from Ford. This link is to a Lincoln/Mercury dealer in metro Atlanta. Not that this is bad, but you might do better.
Extended warranties are insurance plans. Prices often are regulated by the state insurance commission. Florida used to be this way (don't know if it still is)
FWIW, I have had three Ford ESP plans, only one didn't pay for itself.
But I had one non-Ford plan that wouldn't pay a claim that I had to challenge through that states insurance commissioner to get a refund.
Originally posted by Joe Finn Is there a website that will show what dealer cost is for the various plans?
Nope. I work at a dealership and I don't know the cost! I can tell you that we discount Powertrain-, Base-, and ExtraCare 10% and PremiumCare 15% from the retail price.
Here are some numbers for ESP. Capper Ford website wouldn't compute on a couple of the "N/A" requests...also got what I'm sure is a "error" cost on the 72 mths-60K ($800??). These are for a 2004 F-250 4X4, purchase "before" 12mths/12k...I'm using them solely to compare what my dealer throws out there in the "F&I room" when I pick my truck up.
I just did a googe search for Ford ESP and got many pages of hits - even in Canada. But it looks like I'll still have to just call around to find a price because they all offer the same three or four plans. Nobody is offering a price.
I went to fordservice.com and it told me that for an 04 F150 it would be just over $800 for a 6 year 60000 mile warranty. Does this sound like the right price to any of you, what have your warranties cost you? This is one thing that has been very confusing to me as I get ready to buy a new truck. And also , it is one reason my wife sort of likes the Dodges(7/70 warranty). We plan on having this truck 5 or 6 years, not sure about how many miles we will put on it. I sure am learning a lot from all of you, thank you very much!!
