1979 F600 decode

Good day! Sorry to hijack the post but this is the closest I've come to finding relevant info on the tag in my newly acquired F-600 (F61MCDF2630)n 3 days of searching the net! If it's OK and allowed ( and I can figure out how! ) I'll try and post a couple pics. I just got the truck 4 days ago and would like to know what it has for engine , etc. I will be fixing it up, and am excited to get started. But first I need some info. Hope someone can help me with that. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Welcome to FTE.

Your post was edited to remove the irrelevant decode quote and your other post was a duplicate.

F61 = F600 gas, 4x2

M = 370 4V "Lima" gas V8

C = Ontario Truck Plant

DF2630 = 1979 model year. I do not have the "by month" info for '79

194 = 194 inch wheelbase

S = Bright Dark Blue Metallic

F615 = F600 gas, 4x2, 23,000 lbs GVWR

DB8
DB I do not have upholstery info for '79
8 = With the "DB", Regular Cab, Cab and Chassis vehicle.

32
3 = Dana (Spicer) model 7231-D PTO Auxiliary Transmission. This seems odd. Why an aux. trans with a 5 & 2? Maybe just the PTO? Does your truck have two transmissions?
2 = Clark model 282V five speed direct transmission

E3M (Please confirm)
E3 = Eaton model 16244 two speed rear axle, 17,500 lbs capacity, 6.50 / 9.04 ratios
M = Ford 7,000 lb capacity front axle with power steering

B65031
B6 = Ford of Canada, Western Ford District Sales Office
5031 = Special Order Number.

Thank you so much for your help and info! I was getting all kinds of different information especially on the year of the truck. The sticker is half worn off the engine air cleaner, so I was only able to guess at the engine without washing the block off to see any stamping or tag. Like I said, I only just brought this truck home, and haven't had much time to dig into it beyond doing some research. Unfortunately when I pulled the dipstick I already noticed it was over full of oil, so I didn't even try to turn it over and drained the oil first chance I got. Sure enough, water in the bottom of the pan. I will work on it again this weekend, but haven't had a chance to see if the engine is actually seized yet. According to the previous owner it was running fine when parked, but it's been sitting for a few years since. Not sure where the water could have come from, but I'll investigate. It's definitely not coolant, and the coolant was not low anyway. Only thing I can think of is through the air cleaner, if perchance it day with the hood open for a while. It's a shame, but it is what it is. I'll baby it back to life! I hear these engines were very tough, so I'd love to see if I can revive it.
I'll come and post progress as I go, if there's any interest in this project.

Thanks again,
Cheers, Dan

Hey! You've the same "16' stakeside" bed as mine; I don't see them around here, yours is the first I recognize. Mine's an ex-grain truck.

The rubber strip along the cowl below the hood rots off and water can run onto the air cleaner top. My friend recently found his '84 6.9l IDI filled with water and siezed after letting it sit for a year or so. I sold him the truck ~2005, here's a pic from 2007 -- with an intact cowl seal, but still collecting water on the air cleaner -- that I took when I warned him:

Earlier this year, when I took a battery over to help him start it (view down intake manifold):

The air cleaner, when we took it off, the center is rotted out and water just ran right down the intake:

My '73 F600's air cleaner isn't quite as much in the path of water coming off the cowl, but it's often got some water on it when I open the hood. Below is not my truck, but it illustrates the issue on our trucks:

Oh wow! That's very interesting, and good to know! Definitely something to watch for. I sure hope the engine isn't seized, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I'm hoping i can get at it again this weekend sometime. But you know... spare time is rare commodity! The water was not rusty at all when I drained the pan, but that doesn't mean the cylinders and rings aren't. But I can hope. I will keep you posted.
Btw, i re read 85e150's post and yes, the axle code ends in an M. Also, i don't think it has an auxiliary trans, but it definitely has the pto, and 2spd rear end.

Thanks again,
Cheers, Dan
