130 amp?

Just curious, but having owned the '77 since 1986, I've never seen a need for a bigger alternator. Still have the OEM 60 or "there abouts" amp alternator, never have seen a problem. I even ran two batteries when camping just to have a dedicated start battery. I did early on swap to a solid state regulator.

Not belittling anyone's choice to run a 130 amp alternator ..... just wondering if I'm missing something?

The only time I've needed more Amps, is during heavy, extended winching, and that was a one off ordeal... hopefully.

if you don't have any added accessories, big stereo, winch lights, etc...then there's no need. An AGM battery upgrade would probably be first before an alt upgrade IMO

When I replaced the alternator on my 1976 I bought a brand new 60 amp alternator for about $90.
A reman 60 amp was only $20 less so why not go new??

Oh.my OEM alternator is still doing great ..... and I went to a group 65 battery years ago (wanted bigger than a 24F even though the last one lasted near 13 years ... and I have 3 newer vehs that use group 65 batteries plus the two extras in a battery cart), minor mod to tray, and it stays on a 1.5 amp maintainer (not a charger, just floats it charged) when parked. I already did a head light relay setup too. Question was not for need, just curiousity. I can see it winching, or spinning electric cooling fans as they pull some juice ..... and maybe those ground thumping speakers?

Oh, I don't think any of mine are Interstate branded but some might be made in the same plants?
