There are proper tools for removal, but at the price and wait for shipping... For a tool you will use twice if you're lucky.

I think I bought mine on eBay - a few places sell it like CJ Pony Parts and Kentucky Mustang - they even list it on Amazon!! Used on Mustangs and other vehicles, too. Looks like they went up about $10 since I bought mine, but it's been several years so not too surprising.
If you have any old junk tools laying around just modify a deep socket with a cut off wheel/grinder, that's what I did, I'd show you a picture but not sure where it's "stored" now
