Fuel Starvation
Need some some ideas / suggestions from the gurus on what and where to begin. I'm on a cross country trip and yesterday while driving on I40 just west of Memphis TN the engine just slowed down and quits. Front tank is full and rear at 1/4. It will not restart. I pulled the fuel filter to check for sediment and the fuel bowl was 100% clear but only had about 3/4 of an inch of fuel in the bowl which makes me think there is a fuel blockage in the fuel line or is there a fuel or fuse relay I should also look for? I got towed to the Ford dealer in Bolivar TN and waiting for Monday to begin the fix process discussion. Is there any specific thing I should ask the service tech to look at beyond the fuel starvation issue? Need you expertise badly, I need to get to Buffalo NY by Tue / Wed at the latest for a family reunion. Thanks in advance for you thoughts and suggestions. Skip

My first guess is that the fuel pump crapped out. The OEM pump is a mechanical pump in the valley of the engine. A simple test is to use a cheap pencil type tire pressure gauge on the Schrader valve located on the fuel bowl. The fuel pressure should be at least 30 lbs WHILE CRANKING the engine, 40lbs. would be better.
