Bolt Size?

Can anyone tell me the actual bolt size used to secure the radiator to the core support? They are a flange-bolt.

I want to find and order longer ones, because I will be spacing back the radiator itself from the support to create a bit more room up-front for an A/C condenser . Thanks.

From my 1966 trucks I have these. 3/8" - 16 x 1". 1964 often used a fine pitch thread in places that they changed to coarse thread for 1965-66.

Thanks to the both of you for the responses.

Can I tell for sure if they’re 5/16” or 3/8” by the size wrench/socket used on their heads?

Any sources for an exact duplicate bolt, just 1” longer?

I just use my cheapy calipers to measure the thickness of the threads and then a pitch gauge to check the threads per inch count.

The pitch gauge works on nuts and bolts.

Most 5/16 bolts take a half inch wrench and 3/8 take a 9/16 wrench.

Also, is that bolt type shown in Chad’s photo referred to as a “dog head” flange bolt ?

Yes, I call them that too, but thought I’d heard them referred to as dog-point. Maybe I dreamt the whole thing.

Yes, dog-point being the unthreaded tip that actually helps get the bolts started and they went to coarse thread to help prevent cross-threading and the speed of installation on the assembly line. Less revolutions to tighten the same length bolt with a coarse thread than a fine thread. They called the washers Lockwasher - external tooth - 3/8" - Once you thread them onto the bolts they pretty much stay put. Sometimes called a Star lock.
