I keep seeing the ads for "Innovative Performance chips" which claim they give 3-5 MPG and up to 35 hp. Anyone tried them? The claim they guarantee this claim or your money back. It's $100, tempting to try it. (for a 6.8)
True performance chips have not been a thing since the 90's and OBD-1. Anything after that is just a Chinesium hunk of trash that puts false data out to the PCM, if they do anything at all. They are just as real at fuel magnatizers, electric turbos, air intake vortexes, and strippers that actually love you.
There is no change in tune that gets better fuel economy AND higher power. Eitehr is technically possible. Best fuel economy comes with putting a raw egg on the gas pedal
There’s a good video on the Banks channel about these voltage decider type of 10 cent circuits in 100 dollar black boxes. The banks video goes into a good deep dive about them.
seperate from the Banks power video, a voltage decide uses a few resistors to bleed off the signal so that the pcm thinks it’s not there yet and ads some juice to do more.
heres a diagram of a voltage decider used in o2 sensors to trick the pcm.

You can pretty much sum it up using a Venn diagram I am providing you to the right: O o O
The first O is more horsepower, the middle o represents the claims of the tuners such the one you listed, and the last O is the increased fuel economy. Where they overlap is the truth!
