2000 V10 that will overheat only when towing and going up a hill. Has 244k and I do know it's still the original radiator. Just looking for some information on the first place to check or where to start.
Has the thermostat been changed, and if so was it changed with a Motorcraft part? Aftermarket thermostats are unreliable and often cause problems. Have you changed your coolant and was the proper type used? Remember coolant doesn’t last forever even if it doesn’t leak out
Before you replace the radiator, remove the plastic shroud that's on top the radiator and look down between the AC condenser coil and the radiator. I found the front of my radiator was plugged with debris. Cleaning this off the radiator fins fixed my overheating issue.
One more thing, I mostly use this for towing my car trailer and the over heating has never happened before. It was all of the sudden, with the trailer loaded and going up a fairly steep hill that it got hot. Not sure if that matters or not.
I think it has been mentioned in the past that someones water pump impeller blades had rusted, or worn down significantly causing poor water flow leading to overheating..
