Hello All! Forum said I should introduce myself so I'll start with a random issue I've been having. Bought my 7.3 about 1 year ago and since the week I got it randomly it will have a rough idle. Never stalls and runs with tons of power, you wouldn't even know something is wrong unless you idle. It's very sporadic and random, sometimes it idles smooth and nice others it's a choppy feeling and you can almost feel the engine shake. I used forscan to diagnose and went down the rabbit hole of:
New engine harness ford
New IPR ford
New alternator ultima
New LPOP melling
Injectors rebuilt and flow tested, original solenoids but all buzz strong and the same.
New UVCH and gaskets ford
New power steering pump ford (old one was whining loud so I figured could be causing the engine to work harder intermittent)
New EBP tube and sensor old one had a hole
New oil temp sensor fordNew ICP ford
New CPS x3 (different colors)
Also, it has a 4in exhaust, wicked wheel with deleted EBPV and pedestal and 5in i take. I mention this in case it could be relevant to a fueling or air issue. I've spent countless hours watching forscan at idle when it happens. Icp fluctuates between 480 and 520, I do notice the ICPv seems to fluctuate quite a bit sometimes dropping to 400 but the ICP actual never moves. Anyone happen to have any ideas on this? It does fail a cylinder 8 contribution no matter which of the 3 cps sensors I try. Thanks again for any ideas or guidance. Compression test has not been done but it just hauled a 15k trailer 4 hours and is quite fast with no loss of power.
This thread, and all of @Thelegendl23 's other posts, were auto-moderated this morning by FTE's secret sauce self protecting anti spam algorithm, until a human could get enough coffee absorbed to figure out what was going on. That having happened, here is a thread bump to rally the troops to dive in to the OP's question!
Do not give much credence to #8 cylinder contribution faults. It's almost always a false flag. (Oops, I'm going to get on a watch list using that term).
Keep in mind that a cylinder contribution fault DOES NOT automatically mean "injector fault". Intake valve seat surfaces on these engines and piston cracks/ring wear are way more common causes of compression loss (which also causes misfires) than anything else.
Rough idle is subjective. The computer controls on the 7.3L are not capable of individual cylinder corrections for crankshaft rotational velocity like newer diesels (like the Duramax which had that capability in 2001). What is commanded for one cylinder is commanded for the others and any mechanical, compression, fuel delivery shortcomings, etc. is not compensated for.
Yes, a misfire is a misfire but any rotational speed difference-causing issue will cause a "rough idle" on a 7.3L. The engine I rebuilt for my Crown Vic had 154K miles on it but needed two cylinder sleeves due to the previous owner neglecting to put an air filter in it for a while. Mileage means very little when maintenance items are ignored.
The ICP should not drop to 400 at any time while running. 478 is the desired pressure at idle when hot with an IPR duty cycle typically between 9 an 13 percent. It will fluctuate a couple dozen PSI but it shouldn't ever drop to 400.

The NSA just called. I told them that it would take at least 72 hours to retrieve the IP address data that they requested. I figured by then, you should be on the road and safe from any black helicopters landing on your property. Should I go ahead and change all your Motel Brittany references to Hotel Bricknose? That might help throw all the local highway patrols off a bit.
By the way, his posting status (or ability) is still messed up on a couple of threads and not allowing me to mark them as read.
Oh, and he's still only got 4 posts.....according to the avatar subtitle thing.
I had to brute force the forum interface to correct this, but it now should be fixed. He's got all 13 of his posts showing in his avatar subtitle thing, which means he can also PM you.

Yes, PM privileges are multi-factored, including a bare minimum number days of membership, to slow down spammers, and most especially scammers, from impacting our community under the radar.
When I posted what you quoted above, I had forgotten that you've only been here for a couple of days, as I was focused on working around a known software glitch pertaining to post count increment and user ranking when an auto-moderated post gets approved by using the new tool that generates the alert, rather than manually post by post via search.
That is an internal software issue that has nothing to do with anything you did or didn't do. I had just come up with an interim work around for this issue last week, and your post count discrepancy was my second opportunity to exercise that work around, so naturally I wasn't really paying attention to when you joined... only that you had made some posts that you were not getting due credit for (which influences your user rank and PM privileges) and I wanted to correct that post count for you.

I still cant message and it's been 11 days now.. can you modify my profile so I can send messages? I think 10 days is excessive for new members alot of people create accounts to ask questions.

The private messaging system is a privilege, and is guard railed to protect members from scammers.
Yours is the first case of an auto-moderated user where we have encountered a freeze in user group status even after manually authorizing all posts, and manually overriding user post count, in order to upgrade user title status (where user title and matriculation into a more privileged user group are linked).
Since your user title status successfully updated with your increase in post, everything appeared to be working, and we were simply waiting for you to reach the minimum days of membership.
As I mentioned to you earlier today, I expected your PM privileges (aka user group status) to automatically update either tonight or tomorrow morning. Some status updates are not instant, but are part of an overnight polling process that refreshes the database during low usage hours.
However, to expedite your access to PM's, I have now also manually changed your user group status this evening, that otherwise normally updates with duration of membership and user title status.
