Slip yoke leaking

The slip yoke on my '97 E350 is leaking out of the end cap/plug. If I could find a new one I would replace it. I'm replacing the u-joints and will have access to the back of the yoke. Has anyone had success using epoxy or RTV to seal the cap?

Here is the cleaned up yoke

Yes,
I've also brazed up the little hole on a few
There is supposed to be a rubber sealing star shaped washer inside that yoke to seal the splines
Those wear out and get lost

What would work best: epoxy or RTV?
I would probably use the differential cover RTV. I think epoxy would not handle the vibration.

Not sure, ATF eats RTV and epoxy might crack out
I'd use RTV if in a bind and welding wasn't an option
You are talking about putting some on the inside or the outside of the yoke?

Outside... because that's what I see now. The existing cap does not appear to be metal. Fluid is seeping around the edges of the cap. I'm skeptical of being able to apply anything on the inside.

I'm going to the junkyard to see if I can find a yoke off an F150 or other Ford with E4OD or 4R100. I'll use an Econoline yoke there to compare. Hopefully I can find something newer that is not leaking.

The ones I've seen like on a AODE for instance have the cast iron yoke with an aluminum little washer with the very small hole in it
Why does it look so clean in that picture?

I cleaned it off so I could verify where the leak was coming from.

I'll let you know what I find in the junkyard.

I confirmed the F150 yoke is not the same size as the Econoline van yoke. F150 is shorter and smaller diameter on the outer plate

I found a 2004 van with a yoke that was not leaking. With a little effort I walked out with the yoke for $15. Later research shows the yoke on a 2011 van appears to be the same and is available from multiple sources for about $180.

The end cap is metal on the 2004 yoke.

Final wrap up of this post. The used yoke works great. The original yoke definitely was leaking around the edges as shown in the photo. The cap is metal.
