Help me out here. I'm swapping an '84 (I think) 460 into my '79 Bronco. I have the motor mounts from 460 EFI guys. As far as I know they are supposed to fit onto the 351M/400 perches I already had. I can't get it to fit. The whole engine is a finger width too far forward. I've unbolted the transmission mount and loosened the transfer case mount. How can I get the whole setup to move back half an inch? The motor mount bolts don't go into the slots in the perches. Is the '84 460 bellhousing 1/2 longer than the 400 bellhousing?
If there is a problem it's with your motor mounts. I've done a couple 400-460 conversions with no problems. didn't touch the perches. this was with C6's and 4 spds. if you have E4OD or something I don't know.

Thanks for the help guys. I was wondering about the wrong side too. I actually had a 300 in there between the 400 and the 460. I had different towers/pedestals for the 300 and they bolt on one position forward. I'm not convinced, just by glancing at them that they are any different except for the mounting location. People say they are though so they probably are.
Anyway, I am back to the 400 towers since that's what the 460 mounts I got are supposed to mate with. I got it in after a bunch more struggle yesterday and today. I ended up loosening more of the transfer case mount, and removing the motor mount towers from the frame. I loosely attached them to the motor mounts and pried with a spike bar in the bolt holes on top of the frame while lowering the motor and was able to with medium amount of struggle and prying get the horazontal bolts back through the towers and nutted. I got the vertical bolts tightened down and the engine is sitting it's weight on the motor mounts and towers now.
I still have tightening everything back up on the list to do, but it will safely sit there until I'm ready, and I consider this over the hump for engine swap. I just have to button everything up, hook everything up, and make it run now.
