I've seen posts here and other places, seems parts are not sold and make it difficult. Another less expensive option is buy from a scrap yard, hit or miss.
I agree. The parts are going to be a challenge; even if it's just bearings. The rectifier may be an all-in-one unit, but I've never had one apart. For that matter, the rectifier and voltage regulator might be an integrated unit.
Actually found a guy here locally that rebuilds alternators on big equipment. BS'ed with him for a bit and he said he could probably do it if I didn't need it right away, which I don't. Gonna take it in and have him give me a quote.
Shop tested it and said so. Apparently the battery is good but the alternator is bad.
Good thing is I found this local alternator repair guy. He'll check it first to make sure it's bad and if so fix it. There used to be another guy blocks from my house that did the same thing. His dad started the business back in the 60s or something and this fella picked up where his dad left off. I've taken him a couple dozen alternators and starters over the years but he retired and sold all his equipment a couple years ago. Rebuilt alternators/starters at Autozone cost $150+ and you never know what you're getting. From the local rebuild guy they're $50-60 and he puts in all new wear parts (brushes, bearings, etc.)
My daughter had her alternator replaced by a Ford dealer in Moline, Illinois and the dealer charged her $1600. The alternator itself on TASCA sells for $900. The dealer charged her $925 plus labor and all the other BS they can get away with.

Sounds great, good luck and please keep us posted! It certainly helps the guy is in the business, hense contacts, experience, and parts.
This makes me want to find a newer alternator at the junkyard and see what's inside. I rebuit a 3G alternator and it was not difficult. I'll wait for the next alternator sale and grab one for about $30.

WTFork!!! The Motorcraft alternator on Rock Auto is $500 and it takes about 10 min to swap. Too bad you don't know a guy who knows a guy.

I did that when the alternator went bad on my Accord. Immediately went to the UpullAndPay and grabbed one for $35 and installed it. Repair guy refurbished it for $60-70 and put it back in. I still have the JY one on Craigslist. Just trying to get my $35 back. UpullAndPay alternators are $40 now.

She's in the Army and stationed at Rock Island and I'm in Virginia. Her alternator stated failing a year ago Christmas when she was driving home. I offered to take it to the guy I know and she said to wait till it fails. This is an F around and find out moment!!!
On her way back to Moline, she had just gotten through the mountains in W. Virginia and it started acting up again. Hundreds of miles from her base and my home, she was butt clinching it the rest of the way. The truck in question is a 2018 F150 with the 3.5L which has been known to have alternator issues.
OK so he didn't have the patience and bought one off Rockauto. We swapped it in last night and he tore the rubber boot that covers the power cable to the alternator. I'm having a hard time finding parts diagrams for this truck.
