profile options - missing models

Hi,

I noticed that in the profile settings, you can record your truck(s). However, in the dropdown, the whole C-series is missing, and F5 is missing. Coincidentally everything I own.

Cheers,
Tim

Sounds like it's time to buy some more trucks!

I haven't seen you in the Montana chapter recently. Come over and chime in once in a while. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum130/
I'm just next door in Helena.

Will do!

Ok, I gotta admit ignorance in that I didn't even know there WAS a Montana chapter. Very cool, I'll certainly poke my nose in there, thank you!

Cheers,
Tim

How do we get this fixed

I'm wondering how we get the drop-down fixed... Is there a process for this sort of thing?

Cheers,
Tim

I was going to suggest to address this in a "forum issues" forum, but I just looked and couldn't find one. Perhaps @Y2KW57 will see this and respond.

@asavage @timcapps

If you think something should be made clearer in the Model description list, feel free to let us know.

Since drop down menus can't be too long, otherwise scrolling off screen becomes problematic between the menu mapping and the parent screen mapping, some effort was made at consolidation of like kind models, balancing uniqueness with user popularity.

In the case of the F-5, by the time one reaches far enough back in history to have a truck with an F5 emblem, the significance of the truck and the connection with like kind truck owners is less about the GVWR class, and more about the antique restoration, where many of the cab parts are in common between the F-1 through F-8 of those generations of yesteryear.

If we broke out every GVWR class of the long running C Series cab over engine, the menu list would grow untenably in length, making scrolling an issue for smaller mobile screens. Therefore, we do seek a balance that meets the majority of member's needs.

Yet and still, we don't know what you need until you tell us, so your feedback and requests, such as this one, are always welcomed, whether we have already solved the issue or not.

makes sense, but still confused

I think we're talking about different drop-downs, and I sure understand about not making them too long, so consolidation is a great idea.

I was looking at the "profile details" for "Vehicles and interests":

Thanks for your clarification.

The "Vehicles & Interests" section that you took a screen shot of (thank you), as found when in the User Control Panel's "Edit Profile" page, in an outlined box of it's own, immediately following the "Demographical Information" box... does not currently do what the description claims.

Entering vehicles following the drop down menus in that section does not populate a User's Profile with any vehicle selected and inventoried within that tool at present. The data entered is not "visible" to other users, nor is it visible in the Administrative Control Panel for the user. There are simply no fields to present the data entered there, except at that opportunity of entry, after which there is no ascertainable effect visible in a user's profile by other members.

Clearly, it is an up to date vehicle selection list, but not manually prepared by anyone at FTE. So this is a software component that more than likely spans all of IB's Automotive Forums, sourcing data that likely is from the same vehicle parts data base that never lists our applications. Sort of like trying to rent a trailer from U-haul... and U-haul wants to know what vehicle we have so that they can limit the selection of trailers presented online for us to rent only to those trailer's that U-Haul presumes that our vehicles are capable of towing. Only U-Haul doesn't present "F-5" or "C-500" as options, and "F-350" or "Galaxy 500" are not "close enough," and do not fairly represent the same towing capability.

I've tested completing the Vehicles & Interests fields, saving the information, then checking both the publicly visible user profile, the privately visible user profile, and the administratively visible user profile that is not visible to even the user... and there is no effect populated from making any entries currently. I have not checked certain mobile platforms like Tap A Talk, nor do I have any way to check to see if that data is profiled by advertisers to target relative ads, but as far as user visibility of vehicles owned is concerned... that section has no effect.

Obviously, you know that the Primary Vehicle field DOES show up, as the C-SERIES (COE) presently showing in your User Profile aptly demonstrates.

Moreover, the Signature section is another method to inform users of the full scope of the fleet, as presently showing in the OP's signature.

A third way to show fellow users what vehicles are in possession or are of interest is to use the INTEREST field of the User Profile, which is unstructured, so vehicles can be described anyway one likes, with razor sharp specificity.

Wow! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into this. I understand that the data in that section isn't used anywhere so I won't bother with it.
Yea, it's kinda frustrating on auto parts sites that allow you to specify your vehicle. None of mine are ever listed. The guys behind the counter at NAPA apparently have a different list because they are able to find stuff for my trucks. Very odd.

Anyway, thank you.
Cheers,
Tim

This might or might not help, but for the NAPA site specifically you have to tickle the menu, and then more is revealed.
