15 vs 2 12's

i have a 79 f 150 and i am getting ready to put a system into it. i am on a limited budget of course and i was wondering what would be better. One 15" sub and one amp or 2 12" subs with one amp? i do not have the money to get 2 nice amps and 2 nice 12's and i have heard from a friend that a 15 inch sub which is the same model as his 2 12's sounded better than his. i have seen some reasonably priced 15's and it seems like a good idea to me. i was also wondering what you guys have that is a good combination for a 15" sub and a good amp?

I'd prolly vote for 2 12s
15s can be hard to fit behind a truck seat, they aren't just wider, they're deeper too
also 2 twelves have more cone surface area than one 15, so unless the excursion of the 15 is much greater, the 2 12s move more air, so they'll make more sound.
get a decent mono amp and wire the 12s in paralell for 2 ohms

Another vote for the 12s, You won't have to get two amps either. Like drunkenmonk said, just wire them in seres for 2 ohm.

actually you want to wire them in a parallel, but make sure the amp can do that, im nto sure about the ohms, but talk to a stereo shop, they talk for free, remember that.

Ah, my bad, i meant parallel. The ohm depend on the load you're going to be putting on it like two 8 ohm wired in parallel will create a 4 ohm load on the amp, but you're probably going to be having 4 ohm speakers for a 2 ohm load.

id personally go w/ 2 10s or one 12. 2 12s behind the seat of a pick up gets hairy and IMO isnt needed if u buy one good 12.

A single 12 should suffice when it comes to hard hitting bass notes....

Unless you are looking for SPL....

15s require lots of volume behind them and a good amount of power to really
make them perform to their potential..

with that said, go with a single bridgable amp with a built in low pass xover.

A nice JL audio 12" would do nicely......being pushed by a 200 watt Kenwood,
Pioneer, Rockford fosgate, etc...

I have to agree with two 10"s. With limited space behind the seat, the ten's will fit better and produce plenty of sound.

go with two tens. for all the reason above. plus if the have the space a ported box will do more than two 12 sealed and takes less power to do it. i would look at jl audio tens and a rockford 301s amp. two subs are about 200.00 and the amp about 200.00.

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/ROC301S for the amp (punch is the low end of the food chain, but ok if your onna budget)

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...D=166911&DID=7 for the subs. (just as good as the JL if not better, 5 year warranty on Daytons btw.
