Can use advice!!!!

I've got a 1987 f250 4.9l. It has been a real workhorse for me for 26 years, completely reliable, etc. Last Sunday, suddenly I'm getting almost nothing from the battery. The gauges barely move, parking lights only will come on, radio comes on, and that is it. I'm getting no sound from the fuel pump or anything else and, of course, no cranking.

The battery is at full charge, main fuse is okay, cables have been cleaned and are secure including to the starter, frame, and engine. I don't think it is a ignition key problem as the light switch, that doesn't go through the ignition switch, is operating although at minimal power.

Where would you go to check on this problem? I could sure use some advice.

Thanks

Fully charged? How do you know that? Do you have a volt meter?

Perform voltage drop tests on the main power/ground circuits. Secure means nothing. I've seen plenty of secure connections that do not pass current.

Indeed. Clean the connections to the block and chassis. Even the starter and the solinoid. They can be tight and yet still not pass electricity.

I do know the solenoid on the fender needs a clean ground to close, so need to verify snug. How old is the batt? I seem to attain 3-4 years from them only now with a good one.

Take a photo of your battery terminal clamps and post them here.

The lead to copper wire interface fails inside old battery terminals
I'd check the battery ground wire where it attaches to the block
I'd also make sure the chassis ground is still there on the frme

Thanks to all who responded. Before I asked for the advice, I had made sure the battery was fully charged. I checked with the voltmeter, and just to be sure, put it on the charger for awhile. Well, I've only had it happen once before so hadn't given it any thought, but the voltmeter was misleading. I had the volts but didn't have the amps to pull anything. New battery and the problem is solved. Thanks again for the quick responses.
