Hi.
88 f250 5.8 fuel injection
So the starter has been rolling slow especially when hot.
this is a reman starter only 25k on it. Brand new 1000 cca battery
I was irritated at this and laid on, continued to turn key as the starter came to a halt.
then poof lost all power to everything no lights radio nothing.
I have both haynes and clymer manuals.
Only fuse box is under dash drivers side. I checked all fuses tested good.
Then theres about 6 fuse links at the solenoid, i haven't tested them for continuity They look ok no burnt wires no bubbling.
noticed 2 relays under hood drivers side, dont know how to test them.
i understand schematics easy to follow, like a roadmap. But don't know how to test. Have a multimeter Seems continuity is most relevant here.
Any help appreciated

Most likely you have a dirty or loose main battery connection or main ground. Even though you installed a new battery the connections at the battery posts may just be loose or dirty. Or the main battery ground may be dirty or loose. Always a chance of an internally shorted main cable or an internally shorted battery. Good luck.
I replaced actuator last year. I bought an ignition switch with key before i figured out it was the actuator. So i tried popping that in with my current problem didnt help
Ive had a water leak i believe coming from external visor above windshield but it drips drivers side floor, rotted floorboard, but thats real close to fuse box and ecu
I bought an ignition switch with key before i figured out it was the actuator.
The lock cylinder has a key. The switch is on top of the column closer to the firewall. Could could try working the switch by hand to see if anything happens. It is held on with two nuts.
It was the positive battery cable that went bad. I replaced this about 10 years ago, so didn't think it was that.
this also solved the starter rolling slow, which was happening for a couple of years, so this cable was slowly dying.
i use a multimeter set for resistance to determine this after testing all fusible links
i only use truck to cut haul firewood maybe 100 miles a year
Thanks for all the help!
