Intro - 74 F100
I'm Jason (or JW) and yes my username is odd, but it's the same as my Vintage Mustang name, as I have a 67 Mustang Convertible.
I've recently been on my father about my grandfathers 74 F100 and I want to fix it. He bought it new. It's been off the road 10-15 years, and really hasn't run consistently since about 2000.
It's pretty much all there, though it needs going through. I thought I would just clear the patina (looks pretty good actually I think).
This truck has about 200k+ miles. It's had a junkyard motor installed in the 80's from a similiar if not identical year, haven't checked that out.
I grew up changing plugs, wires, basic maintenance on this truck. It never required much. Brake Master cylinders it went through a few.
I need to do a tune up and see if it starts. I'm just going to replace the fuel pump and probably rebuild the carb. Brake system can be completely redone for pretty cheap, at least for testing. I'm betting the fuel tank is junk, so I'm thinking to just get a new one. seems pretty cheap for that compared to some cars.
302-2V, and if memory serves correct it's an FMX automatic though the code on plate just equates to "Automatic". many references are only to C4 or C6 but I swear I remember it being an FMX when I changed the filter in the 80's.
Definitely looks like it's in good shape under the buildup. Be sure to check out the 1973 - 1979 F-100 & Larger F-Series Trucks forum!
Welcome aboard!
