Her name is Benito
Her name is Benito. She's a 1984 F150 (the first year they changed from F100 designation, I believe). She has the big 6 a top loader 4 speed with awesome compound low and reverse to match. T-case is the chain drive NP208F. Pretty sure the tranny is the NP435.
When I acquired her, she'd been sitting for 12 years, unloved. Crankcase was full of fuel, fuel lines were more goo than fuel lines, electrical needed some love, so on and so forth. She's gotten new fuel lines (mostly, not using both tanks yet), fuel pump, batt & alt, and I've rebuilt the carb. Went through some cooling system issues that took some time to sort out that ended with a new radiator and t-stat. Water pump was fine. She was certainly sludged up. All fluids changed except axles. Kind of bumbed neither has a drain plug and looking at the front axle makes my head hurt.'
She's a snow plowing tank, even though she's just a half ton. The tranny is geared perfectly for plowing in 4H and chains on all fours makes her nearly unstoppable. I only used low when breaking back the walls mid winter. Last winter was a doozy and she held up great other than the steering box bolts shearing off from the frame. Hoping for another doozey of winter since I'm a powder addict.
Earlier this summer she stopped shifting. Pretty certain it's not a clutch issue as she won't go into gears even when engine is stopped. Haven't found much intel on this issue on this site, but thinking something happened withe the shift forks or something else underneath the top loader. I've had good luck finding all the intel I've needed thus far so I've never posted, but now this issue has me grasping for any insights anyone can share. We finally had our first snow last night so it's time to put the cruiser bike away and get the plow truck fixed.
I'll post specifically to this issue over in the bullnose forum.
Thanks all for being such a wealth of knowledge. It really is appreciated.
