Right now, I've got a pair of Black Widow Venom 250 mufflers on my '64 F100 and I'd like to go a bit quieter. Do any of you fine people have any thoughts/suggestions on good mufflers? I'd like to stay with one that won't inhibit exhaust flow and is 2.5 in diameter. Thanks for any assistance anyone can give.

I have 2.5 inch magnaflo's on mine (292) I am going to put a 2 inch crossover in it to mellow it out a bit more
Porter mufflers.
A few videos online, and on their website. pricey but really nice. louder than my old super turbo's but a great sound. not bad when cruising, can here it when stopped at a light and sounds nice.
Adding resonators after the headers/manifolds will absorb harsh/raspy tones, and an H or X pipe will also smooth out the tone. Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonators would be my choice.
You don't mention any specifics, but sometimes the things we overlook can have a huge effect. Lots of variables too. Do your pipes run out the back? Headers or manifolds? Extending the pipes out the back will quiet things down a bit. Header wrap will quiet things down a lot! I started with flowmaster 40s. Wasn't loud enough for me. Went to 10s. Loved it. Eventually did a header wrap to help with underhood temps and now sounds like it did when I had the 40s on there.

40's weren't loud enough I have 40's with 2 1/4 pipes and they are a bit too loud. I also have 3-inch vacuum operated exhaust cutouts for when I do want to be loud with no back pressure.

Here in the Arizona high desert the sound just carries differently. Lots of open space. More dirt, less concrete. Have been thinking about adding cutouts : )
A buddy has stock manifolds and glasspacks on his '65. Don't even hear him pulling up.
Exhaust note/sound is like wheels and tires... everyone has their fav's, personally, I'm a fan of the old school glass packs, the shorter the better, and as close to the front/manifold as possible, then long pipes exiting behind the rear tires, always has a nice cackle on decell and down hills, the longer they are, the more mellow it is. On my 2 77's, one F150 4x, one F250 4x, I have resonators off a newer F150, close to the engine, I get lots of compliments on how they sound and they aren't harsh inside the cab, 2.5" in/out the back behind pass. side wheel.
I'm liking the cut-out idea for Mater my 63 when I get him going... for those times I want to be a little rowdy
Engine Masters did a show on exhaust cutouts, surprisingly they recouped almost all of the horsepower that was lost with a full exhaust and mufflers. I always thought they were for more noise. I put mine together with parts and pieces off of e-bay. The vacuum type is instant on or off, but you do have to have a vacuum reserve tank with a check valve to keep them from closing at wide open throttle.
Thanks for all the info, fellas. I should have given more details and I apologize for that. At the time, I ended at the mufflers, which I came to realize made it even louder. I also have the mufflers mounted near the rear of the bed, which also makes it a bit more loud in the cab due to reverberation through the bed. I still have the stock manifolds on there, but will be moving to the Mummert ram's horn manifolds in the future. Since my original post, I've extended the exhaust over my rear axle and added turn-downs. That has made a world of difference in the sound. I'm pretty happy with the results. My next step will be to add a crossover (probably an H-pipe for ease of installation) to help balance out the sound.
