3rd Brake light replacement
Replaced gaskets, replaced lots of bulbs. They still seem to blow out.
Anyone replaced the assembly? Especially LED.
What did you replace it with and how do you like it?
Getting tired of climbing up and replacing the bulbs.
The F150's of the YM you said you posted in a new light housing and a gasket is what I have always put in and they last the longest, but to quote George Strait they're "here for a good time not a long time".

I have not bought an aftermarket LED assembly. But I have looked at Morimoto's 3rd brake light housing for our trucks... there are also cheaper options on Amazon and Ebay, I'm sure, but longevity would be questionable, like the 921 LED bulbs I bought from Amazon. they looked absolutely the same but, they were not. The Diode Dynamics, more expensive, lasted longer (see discussion below)...
I did my gasket almost two yaers ago as I was getting water inside the cab. Bought a gasket set on Amazon. All good.
I just replaced the individual bulbs with VLEDs V6 Extreme 921 bulbs. The whites are 5K in color. they also have a 6K white bulb.
I did have a cheaper version from Amazon,of the Diode Dynamics 921 bulbs, that I ran in the cargo light locations but don't think those made it a year. They were pretty bright though.
I ran the Diode Dynamics 921 LED white bulbs in the taillight reverse spots and those lasted longer but one did burn out and one had some individual bulbs still working.
I'll post up pics from my phone. The VLEDs are not cheap but have a three year warranty and customer service is great. I have been running their V6 Extreme red bulbs in my taillight housings with the 3157 adapters since 2020... one bulb went out I believe due to a bad connector, which I replaced before taking pictures to show the bulb went, and they warrantied the bulb and shipped it free of charge. The other original one just went so I bought a replacement one, you can buy just the bulb and not have to buy the whole kit, and put it in when I did the 921 bulbs in the 3rd brake housing a few weeks back.
I'm going to either start a thread on the VLEDs or I'll look and see if there's an old thread I already have, then I'll resurrect it.
I'll post the pics from my phone.
EDIT
I did not have any issues with the stock halogen bulbs in my original housing, I just wanted brighter bulbs and was willing to pay for them...
Pics coming.
EDIT
This is the V6 Extreme 921 bulb.
it has two of the three gaskets they provide with the kit on to provide a tighter fit to keep it from turning loose. I didn't like the way it fit with just the bottom, and more firm one, gasket on.
Tight fit into the hole in the cab but she does fit.
