2006 v10 atf replace help

Hi. What's the best way to replace the atf on the 06 v10?

I've used Mark's procedure on my 00 excursion.

I keep reading about just doing a drain and fill. I'm doing that on my 04 Highlander for example. 3.7Q which is about half.

That procedure won't work on your 5R110W transmission.

This procedure was shown as a video. Currently, it shows not available, I hope it's back up soon. It's a brilliant way to change the fluid in a 5R110W. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-exchange.html

Yep I saw that. Hoping it comes back too.

What about drain and fill vs full flush?

Unless you have a heated flush machine, or use the procedure in the video that isn't available, you can't do a flush on this transmission.

Thank you Mark. How much can I get out just from the pan? If I do a drain and fill every 10k is that good?

What about adding a fumoto or similar drain valve?

You can get about 6-8 quarts by draining the pan. Doing this every 10k is fine.

You can add a drain valve if you like.

Thanks, that seems like about 50% of the fluid. I think I'd be happy with that every 10K. I haven't checked if my pan has a plug. Is the seal reusable if I drop the plan?

My 06 f250 V10 has a plug. Does that mean anything? It was setup original to tow. I'm the 2nd owner. I was understanding that generally there's no plug.

It means that it is easier to drain the pan than the ones that don't have a drain plug. That's all it means.

Sometimes things are just as they appear. Lol!

I'll pull the plug and see what comes out. LV back in.

About 5-8 quarts. It can vary quite a bit.

The 5r110 is prob one the best tran's Ford ever built..Good Job Mark. Owners manual will say service them every 30k, but after I've found that only going 30k between services the fluid will still be bright red and hardly any metal on the magnet, I've started just doing them every 60k at my shop and I STILL had zero issues out of any of them. Even the ones that gets beat on every day, Towing way to much with a tune and still, zero issues after 500k miles.. Even at 60k the fluid will just be a deep red and still just a light dusting of metal on the magnet. Shoot unlike the 4r, I wouldn't even hardly know what they look like inside except for all the planitary gear recalls I had back in the day.
