47 2 ton

I bought a supposed 1ton on the internet and had it shipped to me after the driver verified the title. I went to do a front brake conversion and nothing fit. So after digging around it looks like it is actually a 1.5 ton or a 2 ton. The title is most likely for a different truck. Long story but it's now missing the front driver side spindle and kingpin and half of the brake assembly wasn't there to begin with. It is 50 3/4 inch axle king pin center. Has anyone done a swap to 48" 1 ton axle? The vehicle will never carry a load so im just wondering if anyone knows if it would work. Or maybe even a 48 2 ton axle. Pretty much anything I can find parts for.

First and only thing that really matters: What is the VIN/Serial on the frame and does it match the title? My first impression is that this was a complete utter frame swap and you are setup for paperwork/legality issues as without much exception, the frame is recognized as the permanent (true) VIN opposed to convenience VIN markings. And before the comments go wild, this is not the place for true legal counsel or to kill the messenger; disagreement (or agreement) with the laws/regulations, their enforcement, and similar has nothing to do with the messenger.

The VIN on the frame will also identify what it is from and assist with any brake parts and setups that will fit.

Thanks for responding. I haven't crawled under to look yet because everything is covered in crusty mud. I don't bring legal discussions to the internet. That being said it already has a Florida title. The only thing Im concerned with is a potential swap to the axle with smaller spindles. If that can be done then I can put a rotor conversion on it. The reason being is I can't find any parts for the current axle.

If it wasn't clear, I don't believe your current axles and frame are early to mid-century Ford at all. That would explain why you can't line anything up. You must determine what it is that you do have. Either someone extremely experienced/talented may be able to visually identify the setup, or identifying numbers would need to be found.

And since you mentioned it, being given a Title for XYZ in conjunction with a vehicle imprinted as ABC could just mean you have paper work for a vehicle you don't physically have, and you physically have a vehicle you don't have paperwork for.

Check with Chuck's Trucks. He can probably shed some light on what you actually have under your truck and may also have parts to replace what is missing. Just a thought.
