need help in 4x4

I got a 87 f250 4x4 last week and when I put it in 4x4 it wants to pop out into 2 hi I think this part will be an easy fix it is eather the linkege (spelling) or the ball detent right. next qustion when i give it hard gas some times it pops out of 4 hi into 2 hi the lever does not move (i am holding it) then go right back to 4 hi. Do you think it is a locking hub or the transfur case. Thanks for all your help

Check the tranfer case where the shift shaft goes into the t-case. If it is sloppy, more than likely this is your problem. let us know. Good luck.
