Not sure where to start. When I bought the truck a year ago I had a simular rattle from the driver side. It turned out to be a loose shock. Recent trip to Mech's, for water hose issue, had rattle investigated....they had no clue. Could someone clue me into where to start looking. I intend to put it up on jacks this weekend and start that journey into F-150 front-in trouble
F_150, is it a constant rattle or a clunk once in a while? Is it 4wd? There are several things it could be, but if you give us a little more info, we might be able to narrow it down.
There are are several things that it could be. (As quoted before) but I am going to take a shot in the dark and say check out the radius arm bushings. They do go bad and are easily overlooked. But it is hard to say without more info.
Thanks for the info thus far..... I have a 2WD, 1993 F-150, 5.0 The rattle is continious as long as there is some roughness in the road. Don't hear anything on perfectly smooth roads, but we all know those are hard to find. You can here the rattle as well as feel the vibration through your feet. I tend to think it might be either a driver side shock or spring..but that is just a guess.
Hey yall, when u get done helping F150, please help me out as well. I have a rattle up front as well, but its coming from under the dash and i cant pin point it. My speedometer works great, and the rattle only occurs at 35mph and faster. My fuel gauge stays up until it warms up, but that shouldnt be anything to rattle. It seems like it has gotten worse over the past week or so, cause it sounds louder. Its already loud enough where u cant talk normal volume. It doesnt sound like a pen or bolt or anything, cause its to loud. Any hints?
Had a similar problem on my 2wd f-150. Could feel it in my feet. Had this problem TWICE. First time, it was ball joints. Second time it was a loose shock. The loose shock one was hard to find. If I grabbed the shock, I couldn't feel anything. But I went ahead and tightened the bottom bolt anyways, and the problem went away.
I just went through this with my '89 F-250. It drove me nuts, which some would say is a short trip. I had it up on stands, everything you could imagine. I am a licensed H.D. Mechanic and it took a body man to show me.. The bolt holding the fender at the bottom rear in front of the door was slightly loose. It felt tight but that was just rust. I felt the vibration through my feet and of course heard it. Only on rough road when the body would flex. Good luck.
I had a rattle for quite sometime in my 94, drove me nuts, and it turned out to be the washer underneath the bolt holding the coil spring on my front driver's side. Coil wasen't loose, the nut/bolt rusted in place just enough to rattle the washer.
