Standard GP105 Glow Plugs
Standard GP105 Glow Plugs
I can't find a single example of anyone ever having an issue with these GP105 glow plugs. I even used AI to search the entire internet and still couldn't find anything. I work at an auto parts store here in Canada and get a crazy good discount and I want to try them. Has anyone with ACTUAL experience with them had any issues? I have a manual glow plug button and only ever hold for a max of 8 seconds. The zd29 plugs from Ford here are almost 400 dollars now ffs. so ya, want to try the GP105 plugs.
Cheers.

Just remember if they don't last and burn out, that wouldn't be a big deal. The worst case is, they swell up when they burn out, get stuck in the head, you try all the tips and tricks but can't get them out and you're pulling the engine to pull the heads and extract them. That's an insane price to pay for some good Motorcraft glow plugs though, dang..........Unless of course you're pulling an engine and heads down the road, in that case, you might not think so. Too bad you couldn't make a trip down past the colonial line and pick them up.
$400 CDN for a whole set comes to about $35 US per GP. That is about double what you can get them for south of the 48th parallel. There was a youtube posted where a guy tests GPs out of the engine. The Motorcraft ones lit up nice and red while the fakes barely glowed. You could get one of the copies and test them to see how they glow. Measure how many amps they draw.

Would rock auto have fakes though? I heard one way to tell is the china fakes don't have a hole in the plastic bag. Any other ways to tell?

I think real ones are stamped BERU, where they are made in Germany. I got some "Motorcraft" off ammo zon that have the holes, but photos sent to motorcraft parts check came back packaging inconsistent with OEM. And they are not stamped BERU like my older ones are. I'm stuck with these suspect GPs
Here's a good thread on our forum with a video on IDing counterfeit glow plugs.

Counterfeit glow plugs are so prevalent nowadays it makes me think you'd be better off ordering the NAPA Eichlin glow plugs.
Right now my 6.9l has a set of Motorcrafts I bought from the auto parts store. We'll see if they continue to work. 🤞

I don't know. I know they are all over amazon and ebay. The last set I bought from amazon and the important part; also sold by amazon as the seller, were authentic. There are lots of ways to spot fakes. You have to do your research and look them over carefully when they arrive.
I suppose you could call rock auto and ask them how you can be assured you'll be sent authentic plugs to see if they give you a satisfactory answer.
