only been to Palo Duro Canyon once,
back in the '70s
no charge back then, look around, no tables, just spread out a blanket and enjoy.
once thought I would stop in and look at it last year, research stopped that thought,
it is a tourist trap, $$$$$ needed
Its $75 for a ticket (if you're not driving a 4x4 on the trails, cost more if you want to off-road your rig) for four days, while not free, $75 for four days (and they have bathrooms) ain't exactly big money.
...
I'm pointing out that $75 for four days isn't big money tourist trap numbers.
...
I believe he's talking about Palo Duro Canyon, not the Excursion event.
I looked at the link and it is catering to 4x4 Excursions, so it really is not an all inclusive Excursion event given there are alot of 2wd Excursions.
I haven't been up that way since I looked at Lubbock in my rear view mirror when I left Texas Tech 30+ years ago...
I use the FB forums for questions that would have short, quick answers. If I need an educated and experience laden response that is backed up by research, documentation, detailed pictures etc., I use the FTE. And the FBMP is great place to find OEM items when the "my Loss if your gain" crowd posts
We used to host "Excursion Diversion" in the late 2000s around 2008-2011. It was held in Tennessee as it was common ground and close enough to most Excursion owners that we all got together. The same goes for "Riffraff East", Clay would host this up in Tennessee and it was always a great turnout.
The only reason both stopped is because life got busy and took us all in different directions. It as fun while it lasted, but it'd be good to do something like that again.

you are correct, back in 1972, Ford didn't know what an Excursion was....

What would a 2wd Excursion event even look like? Everyone meeting up at a KOA for a shuffleboard tournament ?
Seems to me like 2wd Excursion's are a little more utilitarian tools (pull the travel trailer, haul the kids around, stuff like that) and not so much an enthusiast or fun vehicle . Like no one (that I'm aware of anyway) is lowering them, drag racing them, auto-crossing them, or doing other activities with them that an event could be planned around.

My wife's twin sister graduated there (also like 30 years ago) and she won't shut up about it, always yelling "get your guns up" and wearing a shirt with the two big red "t"s on it.

It's called "The Excursion Event", but yet it's catering to the 4x4 Excursion, so why not call it for what it is...The 4x4 Excursion Event. I like driving my wife's 2wd Excursion more than my 4wd F350 because it's lighter, faster, gets better mpg, and just easier to get around in...then there's the youngest daughters Audi Q5 TDI Quatro, that thing is really fun to run through the gears on the paddle shifter.

Okay ,, sure. What activity could the hosts possibly add that'd "include" the 2wd guys? I can't think of anything (other than maybe a dyno competition,,,which an Excursion dyno competition does sound like fun actually) that 2wd Excursions could do where it wouldn't also be leaned more towards 4X4's.
Like with your daughter's Audi, they could hold a meetup at Deals Gap / Tail of the dragon (a public stretch of road with 318 turns in 11 miles), or do a cruise along the Blue Ridge parkway, because that would be fun in a car like the Audi Q5, but it would suck and be a chore in an Excursion.
So, what's your brilliant idea of something/ anything the event coordinators could do to DEI the 2wds?

There sure is a lot of consternation about this event. It looks like a good time to me, even though Excursions are, to me, about the worst offroad vehicle one could choose for obvious reasons.
I've come to realize my 4runner or my Suzuki are far superior to the lard-laden porkmeister the Excursion is. I stick to pavement and towing as uses for my Ex. If I were going to be in the area, it's a 7 hr drive from my house and we're camping that weekend in another Texas location, I'd be there.
Chupamela amigos.

If 4x4 Excursions are " the worst offroad vehicle one could choose for obvious reasons" and 2wd Excursion literally can't do anything (because not even the guy complaining about not be included can think of something for them to do),,,, then I guess the whole "Excursion Event" rally idea is completely pointless and should just be cancelled.

There doesn't need to be an activity. I have been to plenty of local old car meet ups where it's known that owners of vintage cars will meet up in the parking lot of a Home Depot. I've seen as many as several hundred cars in the parking lot where like minded people gather and discuss their cars, knowledge, modifications, restoration, etc. I don't typically attend car shows where one pays an entry fee and everyone gets a trophy.

So,,, let me get this straight ,,,you're saying...there doesn't need to be an activity ,,,but because they're having an activity (trail rides) that the 2wd's can't do, they are therefore not inclusive and it should it be called the 4x4 Excursion event.
If they canceled the trail rides, and had no activity for anyone, would that make them 2wd inclusive in your book then?
You do realize how ridiculous this is don't you?

The ridiculous part is you constantly wanting to pick a fight...I see it in other threads too. I started to not comment in here since it's your thread, and I will say I'm done...have a good day...
