Driveshaft compatibility from F super duty to F 250 HD

Hey guys, trying to find answers to this scenario. I have a 1990 F250HD 7.3 IDI E4OD RWD regular cab long bed. I want to swap in a ZF5. I have found a couple donor trucks but they are both 1989 F Super Duty RWD regular cab with work beds. My question is will the drive shaft from the super duty work on mine or will it be longer and have larger U joints? Thanks

The F-Super Duty/ F450 trucks use 4wd transmissions w/ a driveline brake attached, rather than a transfer case and the driveshafts are different as far as I know too. I don't know what it would take to modify one to work in a pickup.

If needed, you could get custom driveshafts fabricated.

my bet is it will be wrong size. F-superDuty trucks usually use a carrier bearign with two or three driveshafts, depending on frame leangth.
i would not be surprised if the universal size is different either.

I was thinking along this line. Driveshafts are too bad but just trying to get my numbers all together. It’s an old beat up work truck so I’m trying to keep the cost down.

Take some measurements on the wheelbase of your truck vs the donor truck(s). You can keep the driveline brake attached and just ignore it, or swap it our for a transfer case at a later time. If you keep it attached, and the wheelbases are the same, you may be able to use the driveshaft as is. If the Superduty is longer, it should be a piece of cake for a driveline shop to shorten it for you, and not cost too much. I don't remember what rear axle a F-Superduty has, or if the ujoint would be different. You might be able to use a conversion joint to make it work though.

Basically get under there and do some measuring, you may get lucky!
Make sure your donors are diesel trucks too! Gas transmissions won't swap over...

A gas ZF5 can be made to fit.
