Bought a 1993 F-150 302W RWD about a year ago for dirt cheap as my first vehicle. I love her, but i think its time to get her new transmission in. was pulling into my parking spot at home about 4 months ago, went to back into my parking space and Lo and Behold, it did not move an inch. i had been having issues prior, wherein i would drop to reverse and if i didn't press the gas, the engine would stall and die. so around that time i decided i needed to get a new trans for it, found a good cheap used one for $300 on marketplace (i know, i know, im a gambling man.) and been waiting to put it in till either this one gave out or i had a free weekend. well, this past weekend, im driving through town and she starts smoking like crazy and pissing foamy trans fluid straight from the bell housing. now the reason im posting, im curious if anyone has any wisdom about swapping an E4OD for the first time that might be helpful, or if anyone has an idea on what causes this, or if its something that CANNOT be fixed by just replacing the transmission.
The trans front pump seal failed or the bushing on the pump walked forward. Most commonly the seal fails. Ideally you'll replace with a viton seal. Easily found on ebay.
I'm a gambling man too. I replaced my e4od with a used one locally for $200 or $250 about a decade ago in my F450 and it's still going! That's a diesel one and it was about core price back then! It was a ford reman (updated to 1995 spec) so with that tag, it took some gamble out of it.
